At the start of the year, we all made solemn promises to be healthier. We dusted off our blenders, stocked up on fruits and vegetables and renewed our gym membership with the hopes that 2017 would bring health and happiness. Five months down the line, if you’re still working hard then good for you. Resolutions are so easy to break, and so many of us do, so if you’ve stuck it out, then you deserve a firm pat on the back. However, even if you’re still eating well and keeping up your exercise regime, chances are you find it tough at times. Staying dedicated can be incredibly difficult, and if you slip off the wagon, it takes immense strength to get yourself back on it again. If you’re going through a difficult time and your motivation is wearing thin, here are a few ideas to get you back on track.

Find a New Activity

When you repeat the same workout routine, not only does it become less of a challenge but you can also start to get bored. Switching things up and finding a new activity can help to keep things fresh and exciting. Now the warmer weather is on the way, getting outside more is easy so why not take up an outdoor sport? If you live near a beach, swimming in the ocean, surfing, beach volleyball and jogging on the sand are all good choices. Even rounding up friends for a game of basketball or cricket outdoors is a fun way to mix up your routine every now and again. You get to soak up some sunshine, see friends and have a bit of competitiveness thrown in too. What could be better?

Having some new clothes that flatter you and show off your gains or losses can be exactly what you need to give you a boost. It might sound a bit shallow but looking good is important- along with fitness you probably workout to improve your looks so great clothes are a worthwhile purchase.

Buy an Exercise Tracker

Exercise trackers can help you to see exactly what you’ve done, so you’re not over or under estimating the amount of activity you’re doing. They translate the data into easy to understand graphs and charts and can really highlight what you’re doing and where you can improve. You could look at everything from the Fitbit to the Apple watch, many other brands have inexpensive band style trackers if you’re on a tighter budget,

Get a Workout Buddy

Studies have shown that you’re more likely to stick to a routine if you have a workout buddy. When the going gets tough, they’re there to motivate you, and you can do the same for them when they’re struggling. Ask a friend or partner if they’d like to train with you, or you could even ask your wider social circle on Facebook. You might rekindle and old friendship and have fun working out together in the process.
