It’s all about decreasing your intake, rather than cutting them out completely. It’s fairly common knowledge that too much sugar is bad for your health. From weight gain to diabetes, enjoying too many sugary treats is never going to be good for you. However, reducing the number that you have each week could make a big difference. Try swapping your daily chocolate bar for something a little less sugary but just as satisfying like some Greek yoghurt and honey. Honey is a natural sweetener, and this little snack will be much more beneficial for your overall health in the long run. You also need to be careful of drinks that contain lots of sugar. Swap them out for sugar-free options or even just water and you’ll notice the difference in your energy levels once you remove the ability for your sugar levels to crash. 

Salt is also extremely easy to consume too much of, so make sure that you watch how much you have carefully. Eating too much salt on a regular basis can increase your blood pressure massively, which then increases your chance of having a stroke and developing heart disease. Try not to oversalt your food. For example, use it while cooking, but don’t add more afterwards or if it’s a ready-meal, don’t add more salt to it as it most likely already has quite a high amount anyway. Season your food with more than just salt and you’ll soon notice that you don’t need quite as much of it as you thought.

Adults don’t need as much sleep as children, so you might not think about heading up to bed when the kids do. But going to bed even an hour earlier each night can have a huge impact on your wellbeing. Studies have shown that not getting enough sleep could potentially increase your risk of a heart attacks and strokes, so make sure you do your best to get your recommended amount each night. Improving your health doesn’t mean you need to go on a calory deficit diet and start going to the gym five times a week.
