Fantasy Football Player Rankings

Finding the best fantasy football running back (RB) for your team is critical for any winning lineup. While some RBs are better than others, more goes into the position than meets the eye.

As we all know, fantasy football is a massive part of American culture. This season’s rookie class is no different. And while you’re probably not in the market for a fantasy football league, you should pay attention to the buzz surrounding the following players.

Jonathan Taylor RB (IND)

Jonathan Taylor is a small-school prospect out of Wisconsin who enters the Fantasy football player rankings as one of the best running back prospects in the last decade. He ran for 6,174 yards and 50 touchdowns on 926 carries (6.7 YPC) over three seasons with the Badgers.

He also caught 80 passes for 855 yards and five scores. In 2018 he was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and followed it up by winning Big Ten Running Back of the Year in 2019. Taylor won Doak Walker awards both seasons, given to the top running back in college football. He also won the Ameche-Dayne award and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting in 2019.

Christian McCaffrey (CAR)

McCaffrey was the No. 1 fantasy running back in 2019, so it’s a no-brainer to have him atop the rankings entering 2022. He has been the first running back selected in fantasy drafts so far and is the only player at his position to go in the first round.

Dalvin Cook (MIN)

Cook has been more of a hit-or-miss fantasy option in the first four weeks of the season, but he’s still getting plenty of touches and is starting to pay off for fantasy owners at just the right time. After a big Week 3 performance against the Raiders, Cook had just seven carries for 22 yards and two catches for 16 yards on Sunday against the Bears. However, he scored twice in that game to salvage his fantasy day.

Joe Mixon (CIN)

Mixon is a three-down back who can make plays in the passing game. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, line up as a receiver, and run routes from the slot or split wide. He also has excellent vision and patience, which allows him to find open holes at the line of scrimmage.

Alvin Kamara, (NO)

Kamara was a touchdown machine in 2017 but saw his scoring drop from 18 to six last season. The Saints have been making an effort to get him more involved in the passing game, and he has averaged 76 catches over his first three seasons.

Nick Chubb (CLE)

Nick Chubb is one of those running backs who gets overlooked because he doesn’t get talked about much by the fantasy football counselor as some of his peers. But he possesses an immense talent that should make him a first-round selection in next year’s draft. He has scored at least 1,000 yards from scrimmage in every season since 2016, and he produced 34 touchdowns over that span. He also had more than 200 touches, and at least 15 carries in five of his seven NFL seasons.
