Urinary incontinence is a problem which can affect woman at any age for several reasons. The obvious problems associated with it are unhygienic wetting of clothes, unpleasant odor of the urine due to frequent incontinence, embarrassment in public, and the uncomfortable feelings when inners and clothes are soaked in urine. While treatments are undertaken for the problem or associated health concerns, adequate steps also needs to be taken to avoid wetting of clothes, beds, chairs etc, due to frequent or occasional wetting thereby affecting the quality of life and avoid embarrassments.
There are many types of urinary incontinence products available for women. Here is a list of urinary incontinence products for women, which have been tried and trusted and are in use all over the world.
- Absorbent Pads:
These are pads intended to absorb urine and can be used by both sexes. One would have to stick the pad on to the panty by using the adhesive strip on the pad, by peeling off the protection from the sticker. Once the pad is worn, it will keep the user fresh, dry and odorless through the day by holding or absorbing approximately 10 ounces of urine in it.
- Incontinence Panties:
Urinary incontinence panties are highly popular worldwide for the ease of use and their reusability, and designs. They look like normal regular panties, but are made of materials that are capable of absorbing urine, and can absorb up to 10 ounces of liquid in a day. They are a good means to keep you dry and fresh through the day with instant absorbing power. Their waterproof lining outside, would not let the wetness come out and soak your clothes. The best part of using them is that, they can be washed, dried, and then reused like normal panties. However one has to be careful in washing them well and ensure that and it is germ free to avoid any infections.
Since the incontinence panties come in a lot of designs, colors and prints, they are a popular choice as incontinence products for women. Since these panties are reusable, it helps overcome the issue of disposing the used pads daily.
- Disposable Panties:
These panties come in various designs and colors, and can be easily affixed with tapes at either side, to snugly fit the figure. Women who are on the move find this comfortable as they can dispose the pad after use. But these are more costly and using a fresh disposable panty daily for weeks or months would prove to be costly. These are safe and hygienic and the chances of infection are less as they are disposable.
- Protective Underpads:
Protective underpads can soak a lot of urine and are normally meant for use on beds and chairs, while the person is lying or sitting. These rectangular sheets of absorbent material consist of one absorbent side, and another water proof side. The water proof side locks in the moisture and protects the mattress and sheets etc below. The absorbent side absorbs the wetness and locks it in till the pads are saturated. These types of underpads are available as reusable and disposable types, which are made of different absorbent materials depending on which the absorption capacity of the pads differs.
For mild incontinence, plastic pants are cheap and easy option. They can be worn over a normal underpant, and the plastic will lock in the wetness, while you may feel the discomfort if you leak too much of urine. Hence their use depends on whether the quantity and frequency of the urine leak.
