Our health is something we should value and think about every day. But a brand new year is an excellent chance to reevaluate our goals, and give us a boost of motivation if things have become a bit of chore recently. And there are certain things regarding health that everyone should do- whether you’re old or young, super fit or just starting out on your journey- they’re things that will benefit everyone. This might not be new or groundbreaking information, but if you’ve gone off track a little recently or are a total beginner wondering what you can do for your health here are a few things to get in the habit of.

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is good for every cell in your body. You’ll be able to focus better, your digestion will be more efficient, your skin will be clearer and so much more. Every function in your body relies on you being sufficiently hydrated and so be sure to drink enough water. If you’re in the habit of not drinking enough, it can be a struggle adjusting to a routine of consuming more, but you’ll soon get used to it.

Consume More Fruit and Vegetables

It’s now recommended that you consume seven as opposed to five pieces of fruit and vegetables a day. Although ideally, you’ll be eating even more than this. Base your meals around fresh produce rather than making meat the star of the show. Invest in a juicer or blender and enjoy delicious, healthy juices and smoothies. Use a food processor to finely chop a wide variety of veggies, and you’ll easily bulk up things like pasta sauces with loads of nutrition without it feeling like you’re ploughing through a pile of rabbit food. Learning to cook and knowing how to incorporate lots of fresh produce into your meals while still enjoying the taste will allow you to keep up eating healthily and not get bored.

Find an Active Hobby You Enjoy

If you can’t stand running, why force yourself to run miles on the treadmill or get up at 6 am for a jog around the park? Sure it’s good for you, but there are plenty of other activities you could try which don’t feel so much like torture! How about joining a team sport, going swimming or taking part in an exercise class? If you enjoy the gym, you have everything you need to exercise in one place! To improve your workouts, you will need to ensure you’re taking the right supplements, for example; body builders will benefit from creatine, protein powder, glutamine and others. Anabolic steroids are known to be dangerous, but there are safe alternatives on the market such as products by MD Health. For everyone else, a daily multivitamin is worth taking, as well as any other supplements which you believe are suited to you. For example, cod liver oil can help in those with joint issues.

Drink Green Tea

Green tea has proven health benefits, and is something that everyone can benefit from. It might take a while to get used to the taste if you have been used to drinking regular tea and coffee. But the taste is mild and not unpleasant, and is so much better for you than a standard cup of Joe. It’s full of antioxidants, is good for your teeth, helps towards your water consumption for the day and has even been shown to boost mood.
